Half Way Around the word without a plane

Singapore and more...

From Jakarta, everuything started going faster...Non wonder...we changed from sailing a mere 4km/h aboard Tequila, to travelling 40km/h or more using ferries and buses...
It will be hard following us, from now...grab your Atlases!!!

From Jakarta, we took the Pelni Ferry to an island close to Singapore and Malaysia...
Our initial plan was to take a ferry to Malaysia, thus avoiding Singapour, as we thought it was a messy, noisy and polluted city...
But it proved too difficult to find a ferry (especially that our ferry from Jakarta was 4hours late, as usual in Indonesia) for Malaysia, so we ended up hoping on a ferry bound for Singapore.

Guess what; we loved the city, and decided to spend 3 days there before going to Malaysia.
I loved Little India, were our hotel was. It was like having a little side trip to India...we enjoyed curries and lassies...it was just a little cleaner than real India...I think!!!

Romain got really excited with the huge shopping mall next door, full of top notch computer and electronic novelties...he his now seriously considering to come back later and live here...

As for me, I enjoy the multicultural side of the city...and I am quite challenged by the fact that you have to speak 4 langages to get by (Official langages; Mandarin, Malay (close to Indonesian), Tamoul and English)...although english would be enough to survive!!!

But we have many more places to visit before we choose where we went to settle down...

We left Singapore yesterday and we are in Malaca, which is about as multietchnic, but much less clean and organised...
The old town is quite charming despite its derelict buildings, and we are enjoying walks in Chinatown by night, with all the decorations of Chineese New-Year.

We will be spending Chinees New-Year with our friend Anabelle (some of you know her, she was working in Beca with Romain) in KL...
I am sure this will be a unique experience, and we are looking forward to it...

Watch this space for more stories...

We send you a pinch or curry, a smell of encens and a song of the muezzin...
