Catching up with Philippe in Phuket

After a quick stop in Krabi, we arrive in Phuket to meet our friend Philippe from New-Cal.

He is living and working in Phuket for a few months and guides us toward understanding the Thai culture...thanks to him and his numerous friends, we discover a lot of different food specialities, learn some of the language and...(those who know him won't be surprised!) explore Phuket Night Life!

Night Life in Phuklet has 2 poles; one western people, where Thai rarely go unless they are working there, and the real Thai Night Life.

The western oriented one, in Patong beach, caters mainly for sexual tourism. Shortly dressed Thai girls dance on the tables or podiums and flirt with sex-hungry western guys of all ages and social origins, in order to get as much money out of them as they can...Philippe tells us about all the tricks of the girls to get money without having sex (some of which quite clever!).

I can't help but think that we live in a very funny world, where sex in the western countries is getting so complicated and taboo and the guys so desperated that they prefer to come and pay for easy sex in other countries...

Philippe also knows pretty well the down-town night clubs and we spend one night in one of them...we were the only europeans in the room and the Thai here are leaving their life...not much dancing, but a lot of singing-along the live music...

We are striked by the tolerance in Thailand. There is a lot of transvestites, so beautiful it is unbelievable that they are not "real" girls...actually, a lot of tourists get "tricked"!!!

Even in the day, the "lady boys" are going out in the street, totally accepted in this Budhist Society!

In Thailand, night clubs have a "Bring your own" alcool policy...
