Half Way Around the word without a plane

Diving the Similan Islands

From Phuket, we hop on a 2 days/1night liveaboard diving trip to the Similan Islands.

The Similan Islands is a chain of 9 islands in the Adaman sea, on the West Coats of Thailand, near Burma.

The area have been classified as part of the 10 best dive sites of the world...whatever that means...

We are indeed stunned by the beauty of the underwater worlds of those islands.

We do 7 dives around the 2 northernmost islands of the group, and despite low visibility, are each time rewarded with great underwater scenery, beautiful coral gardens, sheer rocks, and a frenzie of marine life.

We see

butterfly fishes of all sorts,

angel fishes,

troopers

and so many

other different

and coloured fish species

like around

swimming butterflies coral heads.

This area is a lionfish paradise and we see all sort of the rarest species of lionfish; blue ones, pygmy ones...you name it!

Finally, althought we didn't meet the famous whale-shark that makes this region famous, we had a very close encounter with a 4m manta ray and a leopard shark...

We came back from this trip amazed and immediately wrote in down in our "places to come back and spend more time" list!

Sorry no pics: What a shame that we haven't got an underwater camera!
