| Half Way Around the word without a plane |
October 15th : Bamaga : first step into the australian outback and aboriginal landsSorry about the back log of our blog, but we are more than often stopping in places without internet or with very limited internet access (ie Gove public library, which consider our french emails as spans…thus providing us to check them !!!)
From Cape Greenville, we kept going up north…another dream sailing ; fast winds and smooth seas ! We went around Cape york early one morning and upon another yachties advices, we wnet to little main land port Bamaga, instead of going all the way out to famous thursday island.
Bamaga port (see here below) caters very well for yatchies needs (diesel, showers at the campground and small and expansive but well stocked supermarket) and offers a very confortable mooring as opposed to currents and swells of thursday island.
Bamaga port : intensely busy with 2cargos and 3 ferries a week!!!
We spent there 2 very nice days…the locals are more than relaxed, and we instantly adapted to the local culture…expecially me, as the boys worked on the radio to try and make it work…
I won’t tell you the whole story but we couldn’t get the weather forecast thru radio all the way since New-Cal, and the boys (I generally tend to stay away from anything that is macanic or elmectronics…as there are already too many people swearing and thinking over them…) tried everything so far without success.
Then the 1st morning in Bamaga, all of a sudden, Vincent realized the connection with the antenna was wrong…It took them 2 days to make the connection work. We now have the written maps, but still can’t get the oral forecast…hopefully in Darwin we’ll buy the right cable and everything should be ok.
I can’t help but think this the 2nd major problem we have on the boat…and it is related to …a connexion problem…doesn’t this reminds you of something (see our story about crossing the coral sea!!!)
I wonder were is the connexion problem and will get somebody to check connexions of the captain and deck hand neurones!!!
We left Bamaga to cross the Gulf of Carpentaria : 3 to 4 days sailing, without seeing land…it’s been a while!!!
So long happy days in Bamaga and relaxed aborigenes sitting on the beach watching the kids play around…Hello high seas and sleepless night, with countless stars…
Aborigene Knowledge tree, bang in the middle of Bamaga port’s round about !!!
